13. Madame Medusa-This spot gave me the most trouble out of the entire list. I had it down between Medusa, Yzma, and McLeach and I ultimately settled on Medusa because she posseses most of what makes both Yzma and McLeach great in addition to her own charm. Medusa's a cruel one, there's no question about that. Just watch that scene were she sends Penny to find the diamond. It's truely the epitome of evil. On top of that, Medusa has a lot of energy and charisma that makes her pure fun for every second she's on screen. Combining cruelty and hilarity, Medusa easily deserves recognition as one of the bests.
12. Captain Hook-Like Medusa, Captain Hook combines comedy and malice in one fun character. However, I feel like Hook has a slightly better blend. He can be threatening and scary (don't let Disney's marketing fool you, he shot one of his crew for singing and threw another overboard for no reason) but he also gets some great hilarity to him but, what's cool about it is that the comedy comes more from the character's failures and slapstick with the crocodile rather than the character's silliness like Medusa (which isn't bad at all, but I like this better).
11. Scar-I know everyone loves Scar but I put him kinda low on the list (however, I consider even making it on the list to be an honor regardless of the spot). Scar makes it on the list because he's such a suave and ruthless villain... at least in the first half of the movie. After he kills Mufasa, Scar just turns into a whiney little diva that has none of the same charm and intelligents that he had before Mufasa's death. But, what was good was still pretty good so I think he still merits a place on this list.
10. Gaston-In a rare case for a Disney Villain, Gaston actually changes over the course of the story. He doesn't start out as a villain, he just starts out as an asshole and a pig. But as he continuously gets denied what he wants, he slowly slips more into villainy until he becomes the complete monster we see in the climax. What makes Gaston's arc more interesting is that it happens simultaniously as the Beast going through the exact thing in reverse. It's really compelling to watch and definately makes Gaston one of the greats.
9. Cruella De Vil-When you think of a Disney Villain, usually the first villain to come to mind is Cruella and for good reason too. This psycho bitch compiles all of the loud, monstrous, but charismatic evil that Disney is so famous for using with its villains. She really combines everything that I enjoyed in both Hook and Medusa ultimately creating a really fun villainess.
8. Lady Tremaine-A lot of people go on about hoe cruel Tremaine was in the first Cinderella but I've always thought she was rather "meh" in the first Cinderella. However, as for Cinderella III.... HOLY CRAP is this lady a scary bitch. This woman undoes Cinderella's happy ending, makes the Prince forget about her, has Cinderella banished, and tries several times to kill Cinderella. And all of this was done out of Tremaine's own petty jealousy and desire for revenge. Plus, during the climax, when Tremaine is hurling magic around, it's hard not to be a little intimidated by her.
7. Dr. Facilier-Disney's newest villain of their rogues gallery (Gothel was CGI so she doesn't count) and definately a great one. Facilier has style, charm, and flair that make him extremely enjoyable as a villain. Not to mention, this guy was a clever one, always coming up with clever plans and finding loopholes in deals as well as using characters' dream against them. Motivation wise, he just wantys money but I feel like it more passable here than with Ratcliffe or Rourke because Facilier has the charisma to make it work. Also, he killed a main character and didn't turn into a diva afterwards...
6. Queen Grimhilde-If you're looking for a complex, well written epic villain, she's.... not for you. She's very basic and cliched but she still stands out as one of the strongest because of her animation and voice. The cape, the flowing purple dress, it all helped to accentuate the regal elegance to the character. Give Lucille LaVerne credit to as she provides the Queen with a very stern and in control voice that helps to define her character. And the Queen's witch form really makes for a nice over the top Disney villain to contrast with the Queen's calm and stern demeanour. Heck, I'd probably rank the Queen's witch form as being equal to Captain Hook in the comedy department especially in the scenes in the dungeon.
5. Ursula-What do you get when you combine Medusa with Dr. Facilier? One of the greatest Disney Villains ever. Ursula has a lot of energy and charisma to her character that makes her so much fun to watch. Plus, this woman's a dangerous one with all of her magical powers. She's also got a great design that just looks incredible with the animation. And, it must be said, Ursula gets one of the best villain songs ever in the form of Poor Unfortunate Souls.
4. Jafar-When it comes to intelligence in Disney Villains, Jafar definately takes the cake. This slippery snake plans out better than almost any other Disney villain and is a master of manipulations. He's a very treacherous villain as well as sadistic. Plus what other Disney villain is so diabolical that they even steal the hero's song a twist it with their own evil lyrics?
3. Frollo-How do I begin with this guy? Out of all of the Disney Villains, Frollo's definately the one that you could stick the most charges to in a court of law. And, hey, this guy tries to committ a genocide against the gypsies! One of the most interesting things about Frollo is that he is a conflicted character. He's not evil just to be evil. He does his evil because he believes that he is doing the will of God which actually makes him a bit scarier than someone that's just evil for the evulz. He also gets one of the best musical numbers ever put into a Disney film in the form of Hellfire that really delves deep into Frollo's mind, making him even more interesting.
2. Hades-Everything about this guy is awesome. Hades is like if you took everything good about Jafar, Scar, and Ursula and threw it all together with James Woods providing hysterical ad libbing. One of the best things about Hades is the fact that he can be both funny and menacing at the same time. He's also got a great design that is just plain eye candy to look at. Overall, just a great villain.
1. Maleficent-I'm sure everyone saw this coming. Maleficent is just the perfect villain. Eleanor Audley brought a powerful yet in control voice to the character and her delivery was almost melodic. Her dialogue was excellently written and had great word choice that showed her to be a very classy character. Maleficent is completely in control of her emotions and is able to focus them as a weapon. She's intelligent and wicked. The only time we see her really loose control is when she's REALLY pissed off and when she is, she has a reason for it and is damn scary during it. Her design is eyecandy. She has an elegant beauty about her and her long flowing robes reflect her power and mystique. Plus, how many other Disney characters call upon the powers of Hell to turn into a dragon? _________________
